The Precious Gift Of Time

The speed and pace of today’s world is quite incredible. When we are children we eagerly await the independence of adulthood but once we get there we wonder where the years went. Time appears to pass by quicker and quicker and we appear to have less time to do the things that we once did or want to do.

Technology has made information accessible instantly, at the touch of a button, but as much as this makes us aware of all the things we could be doing, we get entrenched with the ‘day to day,’ forgetting to focus on what is really important.

How often do you put off and never get round to doing things you want to do with loved ones?

The following poem, ‘Slow Dance,’ written by David Weatherford, is a reminder of the importance of spending our time wisely. Using our limited time here on Earth, to enjoy friendships, the beauty of the world, the joy of life, …..

Each day is a gift, time has more value than anything material, use it wisely.

SLOW DANCE

by David Weatherford

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round

Or listened to rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight

Or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,

Time is short, the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?

When you ask, “How are you?” do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,

Time is short, the music won’t last.

Ever told your child, “We’ll do it tomorrow,”

And in your haste not seen his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die,

’Cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,

Time is short, the music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,

You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It’s like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race, so take it slower,

Hear the music before your song is over.
